Code Snippets Database to cease support for CodeSnip v2 and earlier
I've decided to stop supporting CodeSnip v2 and earlier in the Code Snippets Database from the end of the year. This means that any new snippets added to the database from 1 January 2013 will not be visible in CodeSnip v2 or earlier. Updating is strongly advised.

Three new routines added to Code Snippets Database
Three new routines have been added to the Code Snippets Database. They are: Percentage, returns a fraction as a percentage; PercentageStr: returns a fraction as a percentage string; TempFileNameEx: returns a temporary file name in a given directory.

Improved descriptions and display names for some code snippets for display in CodeSnip 4.
Snippets in the Arrays, Constants, Date and Time, Drive Management, File and Stream I/O, File Management, Graphics, Hex Utilities and Internet categories have been given a makeover to take advantage of the new formatted description and clearer display names used in CodeSnip 4. You will not notice much difference if you are using CodeSnip 3 or earlier or if viewing in the online database.

CodeSnip 4 Release Candidate now available
CodeSnip 4 is nearly here, at long long last. A release candidate has just been released. If the proves to be problem free I'm planning to release the final v4.0 build early in October. Only if there are problems reported will there be another release candidate. What's new in the release candidate? Not a lot: the Welcome screen has had a makeover, there are some new toolbar and menu icons and support for Delphi XE3 has been added. And, the EULA has changed - CodeSnip now uses the Mozilla Public License v2.0.

CodeSnip 4.0 beta 2 released
The 2nd beta of CodeSnip 4.0 is now available. This version fixes many bugs found in beta 1 and also smooths out the user interface. There's more work on the UI to be done, but the program is feature complete. It will be used by me from now for maintaining the Code Snippets Database - so watch out for some v4 only features being added. This release is now the featured version on the DelphiDabbler CodeSnip web page - v3.105 is still available via SourceForge.

CodeSnip 3.10.5 released
Hard on the heals of CodeSnip v3.10.4 comes release 3.10.5 with a couple more UI fixes that weren't noticed until after the previous version was released. One particularly annoying bug in the Preferences dialogue box has been fixed. If you haven't updated CodeSnip in a while I recommend doing it now because the past few releases have squashed a few bugs.

CodeSnip 3.10.4 released
This is a little maintenance release mainly aimed at fixing some minor UI issues. Alt+F10 now activates context menus where available. Some inconsistencies in context menus in the snippets editor had been ironed out. The "Types" unit now appears by default in the units list in the snippets editor. Finally an explanation of how to get test compilation working with Delphi XE2's namespaces has been added to the snippets editor's help topic.

CodeSnip v4 beta now available - lots of new features
At long last the first beta of CodeSnip v4 has been released on SourceForge. This is a feature-complete version - only cosmetic tweaks and any required bug fixes are expected to be made before the final release. It is quite safe to update to this version and use ite seriously because, unlike the preview releases, any changes made to the snippets database, backups and export files are guaranteed to be compatible with the final release. There are many new features. I'll be using this version instead of v3 from now on to maintain the on-line snippets database, so there may be some v4 only snippets appearing there before too long. If you decide to give it a try, just remember to back up often - it is beta code after all!

Workaround for CodeSnip / Delphi XE2 compile errors now available.
A compilation error (F1026 File not Found ?????.dcu) when test compiling snippets with Delphi XE2 has been reported. Thanks to geoffsmith82 there is now a workaround available. I'm currently working on how to fix CodeSnip so the work-around is not needed, which is difficult without having Delphi XE2 myself!

The newsletter archive has been removed
The old newsletter archive is now redundant, with newsletters having been superseded by the new feed since the beginning of 2010, so I have removed it from the site. The old delphidabbler.com/newsletter link now redirects to the news page.

CodeSnip v3.10.3 released
Release 3.10.3 of CodeSnip improves auto-detection of Delphi compilers and fixes a minor display bug in the Configure Compilers dialogue box. The compiler detection issue is discussed in my blog - see "Help with Delphi XE2 program paths please" and the comments at http://delphidabbler.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/help-with-delphi-xe2-program-paths.html.
