Installation and Removal
Installation
Version Information Editor is provided in a self-extracting install
program named VIEdInst.exe that is contained in a zip file.
Also included in the zip is a readme file that contains brief install
instructions and other relevant information.
The following notes describe how to use the setup program:
-
Extract
VIEdInst.exefrom the zip archive. -
Double click
VIEdInst.exeto run it. This setup program is a console (command line) application that will display information in a console window. -
Some introductory text will be displayed then the program will display
the default path on which it will be installed. This will be the
DelphiDabbler\VIEdsub folder of your Program Files folder. If you wish to install to the default location simply press return. Otherwise enter the name of the required folder and press return. - The installation will now proceed and details of the files installed and the registry changes made will be displayed.
- When the installation completes "Press return to exit" will be displayed. Press return to exit the setup program. Version Information Editor is now installed.
The install program does not create a shortcut or Start menu item. To
manually create a shortcut to the program, find VIEd.exe in the
folder where the program was installed, right click the file and select
Send To from the mouse menu. Now select the option to create a
shortcut on the desktop. This shortcut can be copied to the start menu if
required.
Version Information Editor's help system uses the old WinHelp program that is no longer distributed with Vista. Microsoft has made WinHelp for Vista available for free download. At the time of writing this was available here.
Removal
To uninstall Version Information Editor open the Windows control panel and start the Add/Remove Programs (a.k.a Programs and Features) applet. Locate DelphiDabbler Version Information Editor in the list of installed programs and click the remove button. The uninstaller will then run. This is a console application that will display a list of the files it attempts to remove and the registry entries it deletes.
The uninstaller will most probably leave a few files behind in the folder where Version Information Editor was installed. These files, and the program folder, can be deleted manually.
